In 2012, we created an epee class for teenagers and adults because we think and learn in a different way than children. Some of us may be slower than we once were, but you definitely think faster now than you ever have. We focus on building technique, developing skills, and creating personal strategies for each fencer. Some days you might leave completely exhausted while gaining endurance, and other days you might leave with new skills or competitive strategies.
Our goal is that after each class, you leave a better fencer than when you walked in and you had fun while doing it!
The typical beginner/intermediate class consist of a group warmup, footwork and endurance work, a drill/exercise/instruction for the day, and open bouting. With every class, be sure to ask for clarification about anything from a coach or more experienced fencer. We are here to make sure everyone is safe and to help you!
The typical beginner/intermediate class consist of individual warmups, scoreless bouting warmups, short-form bouts, and long-form bouts. These classes require more in-depth analysis and by nature, more personal instruction. With that, ask questions, watch replays, do research, practice at home, take lessons, etc. to make the most out of your time in and out of class. Like every sport, the more time and effort you put into it, the more you’ll see yourself progress.
